I know better. I shouldn’t argue with people on Facebook. But when it comes to human rights sometimes I can’t avoid it. The other day I was arguing about the wellbeing of children raised on gay marriages. This is what I wrote:
When I discuss issues as sensitive as human rights I always focus on facts, not beliefs. I respect people’s beliefs and opinions but when it comes to facts I don’t settle unless I’m confronted with more convincing and compelling facts. So, what do we know about children raised by same sex couples? That they do as good as children from heterosexual marriages. Columbia Law School completed the most comprehensive meta-analysis on this subject. After analyzing 30 years of research, what did they find? 76 studies: 72 studies concluding that children of gay or lesbian parents fare no worse than other children and four studies concluding the opposite. After accounting for biasses and flaws, they concluded that taken together, this research forms an overwhelming scholarly consensus, based on over three decades of peer-reviewed research, that having a gay or lesbian parent does not harm children. Empirical evidence over anecdotal evidence.
I stand by my words.
