CAMBRIDGE, OH – The young cast of Disney’s Mulan Jr. is ready to entertain and impress audiences of all ages. The show opens tonight at the Cambridge Performing Arts Center at 7. It will run Aug. 20, 26 and 27 at 7 p.m. and Aug. 21 and 28 at 3 p.m. Ticket prices for all over the age of two are $5.

Mulan Jr. is an adaptation of the Disney story Mulan. The story takes place in ancient China. It tells the tale of Mulan and her efforts to find her place in her world.

Starring as Mulan is Madigan Mazaher. At the age of 15, she is one of the oldest performers in the show. The 40-some performers range in ages from 6 to 15, making this many of the children’s stage debut.

Portraying Mulan’s mischievous sidekick, Mushu, is Cooper Chlovechok. This energetic dragon is a role well-suited for Chlovechok. He brings a lot of energy to the stage.

Guiding the story from afar are Mulan’s Ancestors. Frances Avila-Soto, Briana Chlovechok, Izzy Kuklica and Miranda Marsinek lend wisdom and support to Mulan through Mushu.

Zach Reed, who plays Shan-Yu, the Hun leader, has an incredible stage presence. He is loud and fierce. He makes a great “villain” in the show.

Of course, a leader is nothing without his soldiers, Emma Stinson and Ali Eke are all reasons to like the bad guys. With such a large cast, everyone must work together to make the show a success.

Even at such young ages, the talent and skill on the stage is remarkable. Voices can be heard, lines are remembered and in the rare case that a line is skipped or something doesn’t go as planned, the children are able to improvise and continue without missing a beat.

Directed by Alex Mullen and Megan McConnell, the group has devoted much of their summer to this production. Rehearsals began in late June and were several times a week. Their hard work has paid off.

Energy, comedy, musical favorites and talented children make this show one to be seen. Children of all ages will enjoy this performance. It runs for just about an hour and provides an excellent form of weekend entertainment during these final summer weekends.
